WHAT IS THIS BLOG ABOUT?
"Debating the Obvious" will aim to use social theory and research to challenge some of the ideology that has been constructed around our economic system, ultimately asking, "why do we live like this?"
The focus will be on using social constructionism to look at popular phrases and truisms, but some posts will also look at what social research tells us about how people are harmed by government policies. |
Jonathan Jones - Social Research student, carer and activist
I am a PhD research student, researching the views of precariat workers, particularly their interpretations of social mobility. I have been a carer for my disabled mother for most of my adult life, and experienced severe poverty as a result. It is my goal to use the knowledge and theory of sociology to create a fairer and more equal world.
